Moon-Mars Conjunction
Saturday, 08 March 2025
21:30-22:30
The Moon will lie very close to Mars in Gemini, just below Castor and Pollux, as illustrated below.

This will be an excellent astrophotography opportunity! It might be best viewed from the park.
Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation
Saturday, 08 March 2025
18:30-19:30
Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation this evening – that's the furthest point from the Sun in its orbit. It'll be further from the sunset glare. Although the small planet is dimmer than it was last week, it's still brighter than most stars.

This will be an excellent chance to photograph Mercury and Venus close together in the twilight sky.
Moon: Jewelled Handle (Clair-Obscur Effect)
Saturday, 08 March 2025
14:00-14:30
TRAC will attempt to see its first clair-obsur effect on the Moon: the "Jewelled Handle".

Can we see it with the naked eye or binoculars? Or does it require a telescope for it to become visible?
Check our March 2025 Action Plan for the full details.
Jupiter-Moon Conjunction
Thursday, 06 March 2025
21:00-22:00
The Moon at first quarter will sit between Jupiter and the bright star Elnath in Auriga.

Our goal is to photograph the conjunction and observe the large craters and maria on the eastern side of the Moon.
Callisto and Jupiter's GRS
Wednesday, 05 March 2025
19:15-19:45
Jupiter's outermost Galilean moon, Callisto, will make a close approach to the gas giant's north pole at 19:30.

Our goal is observe Callisto above Jupiter and see if we're able to get a photo of this arrangement. The Great Red Spot will also be facing Earth, so we'll try to spot it as well.
