Full Moon (Seestar S50 AP)
03 Jan 2026
21:00-22:00
Objective: Take a photo of the Full Moon using the Seestar S50.
This will be our first test at photographing the Moon with the Seestar S50 smart telescope. How will it compare to photos with phones through the telescope eyepiece?
Seestar S50 Test Night
19 Dec 2025
21:30-23:00
Objective: Test the new Seestar S50 smart telescope.
We'll use the Seestar for the first time and have a go at photographing M31 and M42. It will be interesting to see if it's able to cut through the skyglow. The next step will be processing the images using Photoshop.
Ceres, Ring Nebula & 51 Pegasi
23 Nov 2025
17:30-19:00
Objective: Locate Ceres, the Ring Nebula, and the star 51 Pegasi.
Minor planet Ceres reached opposition on 03 Oct 2025. We'll prepare some printed star charts to help us locate this asteroid for those who didn't get chance to see it in October.
Refer to our monthly action plan for details of Ring Nebula and the significance of the star 51 Pegasi.
Night Sky Photography
Friday, 21 Nov 2025
17:30-19:00
Objective: Improve our afocal astrophotography skills.
Using our phones, we'll take photos of a few of the autumn's main constellations. We'll focus on wide shots of the Plough and Polaris, as well as the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters.
Taking the photos is only half the job; learning how to process the images on the computer is a major part of this work.
Uranus (Opposition)
Monday, 17 Nov 2025
20:30-22:00
Objective: Observe Uranus at >100x magnification.
Uranus reaches opposition on 21 Nov 2025. We'll print off the star charts showing its current position near the Pleiades star cluster. Our aim is to locate Uranus using the telescope and view it at a high magification to see if we're able to resolve it as a disc and detect any colour. It should be a pale blue-green.
